Meat & Vegetable Based

The Whollypets Diet is a meat and vegetable based diet.
Animal protein is the best way for dogs to receive an abundant array of amino acids which are integral for repairing and building muscle and bones, producing hormones and enzymes, healing wounds, detoxification, and regulating the immune system. Amino acids are key for preventing illnesses. Therefore, animal protein is the proper foundation for dog health.

The Whollypets Diet is a low glycemic diet that believes in sourcing carbohydrates only from low starch, antioxidant rich vegetables.

No Seed Oils

A difference with the Whollypets Diet is that our diet utilizes fat as the antioxidant-rich energy source it should be, not as a cooking agent, which, depending on the fat, only contributes to its degradation and rancidity.

Seed oils are not just in commercial pet food but also very popular in homemade diets. The fact that seed oils are heavily processed should be concerning enough, but other major concerns such as toxic byproducts being released with heat, rancidity before they are even placed on store shelves, and being so high in omega 6s causing them to be highly inflammatory, should have pet owners question their use in any pet diet.

Seed oils should have no place in a health promoting diet.

No Synthetics

Whollypets is here to shed light on a misconception. NOT ALL BALANCED DIETS ARE CREATED EQUAL. There is immense pressure placed on pets requiring “balanced” food. This originated with the commercial pet food industry. Since extreme heat and processing is involved, nutrients are completely destroyed. This is why synthetic vitamins and minerals are used. Even when home preparing, you are told it doesn't matter what you feed as long as you make sure to “balance” the meal, having pet owners depend on a synthetic vitamin and mineral powder to restore the many missing nutrients. While there is absolute validity to balance the diet, the problem lies with the way it’s being balanced. Instead of focusing on nutrient dense foods and food derived supplements, that supply nature’s design of vitamins and minerals, chemicals have made their way in our pet’s bowls, yet again.

Whollypets promises to offer recipes that are balanced as nature intended, containing life giving nutrients that fuel every cell.

No pork

Pork is not part of the Whollypets Diet ingredient list. Aside from pigs carrying a lot of viruses and parasites, pig farms are prevalent in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteria (MRSA). Since pigs have quick and simple digestive systems toxins may not be adequately filtered out of the body, therefore it’s best to use caution when including pork in a health promoting diet.

The Whollypets Diet is a gently cooked diet .

When faced with the question of whether to feed your
dog raw, Whollypets challenges you to consider what this might mean.

Why not raw ?

Firstly, not all domestic dogs have a palate for raw meat, as they've been accustomed to eating alongside humans for thousands of years!

Secondly, it is expensive to feed so much meat!

Raw feeders have to feed an enormous amount of meat to meet their dog’s daily caloric needs. This is why raw feeders rely on lower quality meat.

The raw feeding community does not place enough consideration into the diet and lifestyle of the animal being fed.

There is no comparison of today's store bought meat with fresh game in the wild.

The vast majority of supermarket meat comes from livestock that has been raised on Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) aka factory farms. Animals living on CAFOs are far from healthy. They are injected and fed antibiotics, given hormones, and administered medications (around the clock). They feed on GMO grains sprayed with synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. For CAFO animals, heavy metal exposure is inevitable and a continuous cycle. It begins with animals being fed GMO grains contaminated with heavy metals. Even though animals secrete some of these toxins, they are exposed again through their own manure. The manure contaminates surrounding soil and waterways, which in turn, contaminate the drinking water, and the vicious cycle continues. Consuming CAFO meat contributes to antibiotic resistance in your pet and increases exposure to pathogens, hormones and drugs. Not only does conventionally raised animals have stressful living conditions but the slaughtering process produces so much more stress on the animal, raising the cortisol levels in the meat even more. Once consumed by your pet, the cortisol present in the meat creates a histamine reaction resulting in various common symptoms such allergic reactions, reduced appetite, inflammation, digestive discomfort and an overall feeling of unwellness.

Raw meat should be butchered fresh and fed immediately. Yet people are feeding raw shelved meat that undergoes a long, unnatural process before it even reaches stores. The average age from slaughter to your refrigerator is 2-6 weeks. During this time, not only is harmful bacteria proliferating but histamine forming bacteria is rapidly raising histamine levels. This is why cooking meat is necessary! Cooking meat inactivates histamine producing bacteria and eliminates pathogens.

Here is a review from a bestseller raw feeding book to demonstrate that there is not enough emphasis placed on the risks of raw meat ...

Sourcing is key to mitigate risks.

Although feeding raw is beneficial if done correctly, gently cooking is also very advantageous.

With Whollypets , you will learn how to cook each ingredient to preserve nutrients, while mitigating pathogens and unfavorable bacteria.
